Thomas Allison 0051
The first couple of weeks consisted of the beginning of our pre-preduction work during this time we had a great deal of work to complete splitting it fairly amongst the group. We firstly each came up with an idea with a detailed synposis and had to decide between them all to which one we would undertake as our production piece. After analysing the ideas (SWOT Analysis) and choosing the final one I began researching using various case studies into what trailers consisted of and what type of codes and conventions were used to help target the chosen audience. I had no problems with researching as I am experience at this from my other subjects and the previous tasks within Media Studies. More research was completed into our chosen genre (thriller) and the codes and conventions used. After researching conclusions were made from the information gathered to enable us to construct our production and the essentials needed.
Before entering the detail of trailer and what it would involve I researched into the BBFC and UK Legal Frameworks to ensure that our ideas would be legal and suit our target audience (15+). To begin within we were going to narrow down our target audience by targeting eighteen year olds and above but we decided that this would cut out a create deal of a potential further audience and instead made the trailer a 12A so more people would be tempted and view it. To conclude when creating and detailing our ideas we made sure we did not test the restrictions and stuck within the boundaries. An example of a restriction which may affect us due to our target audience and genre (thriller) is “The Obscene Publications Act 1959 and 1964”. This simply states we must not disturb or encourage our target audience with our trailer or film.
During this stage of the pre-production we had successfully undertook the first objectives and got underway with our production piece with an insight to some ideas thanks to our research.
